Federer And Williams Meet In Mixed Doubles


Rodger Federer and Serena Williams just faced off for the first time in their careers. The two tennis legends were part of separate duos competing in the mixed doubles tournament at the Hopmen Cup in Australia.

Federer was playing with Belinda Bencic; the pair representing Switzerland in the tournament. Williams was paired with American Frances Tiafoe. In the end, it was Federer and Bencic who came away with the victory.

Reactions To The Match  

Federer says he was nervous to face Williams and her famous serve. Williams is known for a powerful serve that is tough for opponents to read. Federer was impressed by Williams serving ability but was ultimately able to handle it.

For her part, Williams said she was very excited to play against someone she respected so much. Federer and Williams are both at the top of the sport and have great admiration for each other.

Both players are now 37 years old and together they have won an impressive 43 Grand Slam singles titles. So, seeing the two square off in a doubles match was quite the treat for fans. Ultimately, Switzerland won the match, two games to one, over the American team.

The Rest Of The Tournament 

After losing to the Swiss team, the Americans are now out. But Federer and his teammate Bencic, are still alive. They play Greece on Thursday and have a chance to make it the finals on Saturday if they win. As the defending champions, Switzerland doesn’t want to disappoint the fans.

Whatever happens in the rest of the tournament, the most exciting matchup has already been played. Williams and Federer battled it out against one another, both having difficulty returning the other’s serves. Williams was grabbing her shoulder at times during the match but says she is fine. Let’s hope that is true and that Federer and Williams can both keep wowing crowds in the coming years.
